Brothers and Sisters,
The people have expressed their opinion on yesterday's opinion. The
announcement this morning of its results comes to assert that, with
constitutional amendments that derive their legitimacy from the free
will of citizens, we are embarking on a new phase.
These amendments opens the door to further
enhancements of our legislative framework, thereby reinforcing the
ongoing process of political, economic and social reform and realizing
the objectives of constitutional reform.
In spite of the fact that these amendments represent
a leap in kind towards enhancing our democracy, I do reiterate that
democracy will not be realized through constitutional and legislative
texts alone, but also through increasingly expanding space of active
participation, and disseminating the culture and promoting the practice
of democracy.
Fellow Citizens,
The people's say on this referendum indeed expresses their adherence to
the better future we are seeking and their insistence to pursue, with
resolve and confidence our march forward through the coming phase.
The people are indeed the real winner of yesterday's
referendum. While welcoming its results, I would say that the
constitutional reform already achieved is not the end of it all. These
constitutional amendments have opened the door to a long path of hard
work requiring all compatriots to exert concerted efforts and to come to
agreement on such goals that bring us together rather than divide us and
push Egypt and its people forward.
Let us proceed hand in hand in close ranks, up
hoisting the banner of a robust and secure Egypt, completing the
structure of our democracy and building together the aspired-for future.
We pray Allah to guide us to the welfare of our country and its people.
May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon you.
