Aug 29 th , 2000

President Mubarak and American President Bill Clinton held a talk session at the Presidential lounge of Cairo International Airport. The summit, which dealt with means to push forward the peace process on all tracks, took one and half-hour. Both leaders confirmed that all parties are exerting maximum efforts to assist Palestinian and Israeli sides overcome the hindering obstacles in order to reach a framework of an agreement during the coming September.

President Mubarak had a press interview with the French Le Figaro. Minister of Information Mr. Safwat Al -Sherief and Mr. Nabil Othman Head of State Information Service attended the meeting.

President Mubarak received American Republican Senator of Utah Mr. Robert Bennett who stated that Mubarak shared his hopes for the achievement of progress in the ME peace process. Bennett added that he was satisfied about Mubarak’s description for his summit with President Clinton as fruitful.

President Hosni Mubarak inaugurated a new court complex in Alexandria where he met with members of the judiciary and public prosecution. Several issues were raised, both on the national and international level, during the meeting. President Mubarak expressed full respect to the judiciary independence. While the issue of peace on the Palestinian track, especially Jerusalem was presented as the major concern of the Arab world at the current time.

President Mubarak held a talk session with Palestinian President Yasser Arrafat in Alexandria’s Ras Al- Teen Palace. Arafat, during the meeting that covered various issues mainly the status of Jerusalem, informed President Mubarak about the outcome of his talks held recently with several concerned parties.

President Mubarak held talks with Israeli Acting Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami which tackled development of the ME peace process and means to accelerate the negotiations on the Palestinian track under the current circumstances. Mr. Ben Ami stated after the meeting that Israel fully recognizes the pivotal regional role that Egypt is undertaking in the ME.

President Mubarak had a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Thorbjoern Jagland looking into possibilities of pushing forward negotiations on the Palestinian track and the development of the peace process in general. Mr. Jagland offered his condolences to the President during their meeting for the Egyptian victims of the crashed Gulf Air flight.

President Mubarak, in an open dialogue held in Alexandria with University students, affirmed that Egypt is strictly committed to the achievement of peace in the Middle East. Mubarak stressed that neither Egypt nor any part of the Arab and Islamic world at large accepts Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem.

President Mubarak held intensive consultations with Israel's Meretz Party Leader Yossi Sarid. President Mubarak`s talks with Mertez Chief Sarid centered on the internal situation in Israel and the foreground position of the party in view of its siding with peace supporters.

President Mubarak held intensive consultations with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat they tackled a host of details pertaining to problems on the Palestinian track of negotiations with Israel following the failed Camp David Summit last month. They also discussed all stances and proposals involving the Palestinian, Israeli and American sides. The consultations on that score would continue in the coming few days.

President Mubarak held a bilateral session of talks Wednesday with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani who paid a few hours' visit to Egypt. In a statement upon arrival in Cairo Hamad extended his hearty wishes to the Egyptian people. The Qatari Emir had arrived in Cairo earlier in the day as part of an Arab tour, which took him to Syria and Lebanon.

President Mubarak, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, inaugurated the military hospital for emergencies and accident cases in Sidi Krir, which lies at kilo 39 on the Alexandria-Mersa Matrouh road. It is the first of its kind in Egypt.The hospital will provide various medical services for the tourist villages bedecking the northwestern coast. Its round-the-clock services will be offered at low prices as a form of contribution by the armed forces to boost the civilian sector.

President Mubarak opened the Mubarak city for scientific research and technological applications in Bourg el-Arab near the coastal city of Alexandria.Established on an area of 100 feddans, the LE 80 million complex comprises state-of-the-art scientific research facilities.The opening ceremony featured a documentary on the complex and its different facilities.

President Mubarak received Former Sudanese President Gaffer Numeiri and discussed with him internal issues in Sudan as well as recent developments and the importance of launching a full-fledged reconciliation, pointing out that the Egyptian-Libyan initiative to settle the Sudanese crisis is not focussing on a north reconciliation but rather a comprehensive one.

President Hosni Mubarak and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat held a meeting. It is their third meetings since the failure of the Camp David talks less than two weeks ago to discuss problems impeding peace-making efforts in the region.The two leaders discussed possible Arab and Islamic actions to support the Palestinian right in the Holy City of Jerusalem and to preserve the identity of the City from Israeli maneuvers.The meeting also focused on the necessity to pursue peace in the region, indicating that Cairo has constant contacts with the Israelis and the Americans to explore chances of reviving the process.

President Mubarak received Israel Prime Minister Ehud Barak within the efforts to push forward Middle East peace process .The meeting tackle the means to resume peace talks between Israel and Palestine. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak briefed president Mubarak during their meeting in Alexandria on the Israeli reaching an accord between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

In the framework of an intensive Egyptian and Arab moves for saving the peace process and supporting Palestinian negotiators on Jerusalem issue, President Mubarak Mubarak received Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat at Raas el-Teen Palace in Alexandria. The Palestinian Leader briefed President Mubarak on the results of the tour which took him so far to France and six Arab countries.
