President Mubarak and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat held a session of talks dealing with the current situation in Israel as well as the coordination of the Arab positions prior to Amman summit.

President Mubarak chaired an expanded ministerial meeting with the participation of representatives of the Egyptian – US Presidential Council. Mubarak underlined the Egyptian – US strategic relations stating that his coming visit to the USA is a response to President Bush’s invitation. He added that this visit aims at enhancing bilateral relations, economic cooperation as well as pushing forward the Middle East peace process and stability on the regional and international levels.

President Mubarak inaugurated an armed forces Medical Center for physiotherapy and physical rehabilitation in Agouza district.

President Mubarak paid a short visit to Jordan where he met with King Abdullah II and reviewed the necessary means to ensure success of the coming Arab summit to be held in Amman. Both leaders focused on the issues, which will be covered during the summit, the sanctions imposed on Iraq as well as the evaluation of Colin Powell’s visit to the region.

On the side of the Summit of Developing Eight Group (D- 8), President Mubarak received Deputy Malaysian Prime Minister Mr. Dato Serri Abdullah Ahmed Badawy. Both leaders discussed summit results and recommendations as well as bilateral relations.

President Mubarak and Indonesian President Abdul Rahman Wahid met over a number of issues including the financial crises which hit South Eastern countries, mechanisms used to mitigate the amount of loss as well as the results and recommendations of the summit.

President Mubarak inaugurated the Summit of Developing Eight Group (D- 8) held in Cairo. In his speech, Mubarak explained that the D – 8 is looking forward for the transformation of goals into tangible projects and programs. To this effect he introduced the relevant guidelines aiming to elevate inter trade activities from 3.5% to 7% in the next five years. He also called on fostering cooperation in the area of IT and communications giving a special concern to the social aspect.

President Mubarak held tête a tête talk with his Italian counterpart President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. Both leaders urged Israel during their meeting to cease violence and resume the peace process.

President Mubarak reviewed with Dr. Boutros Ghali Secretary General of the Francophone Organization activities of the organization during the coming period.

President Mubarak received a message from the Senegalese President Mr. Abdoulaye Wade dealing with African and Middle Eastern related issues and stressing the pivotal role that Mubarak is playing for the achievement of peace.

President Mubarak held a meeting with Spanish PM Mr. Jose Maria Aznar which dealt with the developments of the ME peace process in the light of the current circumstances, as well as changes of both the US administration and Israeli government. Mubarak and Aznar also discussed the enhancement of bilateral economic and commercial cooperation.

President Mubarak and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat held a meeting at the presidential palace. The two leaders discussed latest developments in the Occupied territories as well as the Middle East peace process in the light of the election of Ariel Sharon as Israeli Prime Minister.

President Mubarak arrived to Kuwait in a visit as part of his tour in a number of Arab countries. He discussed with the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Gaber Al- Ahmed the preparation for the coming Arab summit, and the formulation of an Arab vision regarding the future of the Middle East peace process .

President Mubarak held bilateral talks with Tunisian President Bin Aly. During the session, peace related issues came on top of the agenda investigating international and regional variables. Both leaders looked as well into necessary steps for the termination of sanctions on both Libya and Iraq in addition to the enhancement of trade relations between the two countries.

President Mubarak received the Indian Foreign Minister H.E Mr. J A S W A N T S I N G H who stated after their meeting that Mubarak expressed his sincere condolences to the Indian people for the victims of the earthquake. Singh added that Mubarak was extremely concerned to follow up on the rescue operations and stressed the importance of enhancing Egyptian/ Indian economic relations.

President Mubarak chaired a meeting of the economic ministerial group aiming to follow up on the economic and fiscal policies. President Mubarak studied during the meeting a report submitted by H.E the PM Dr. Atef Ebeid dealing with the government policy on the rationalization of markets as well as the modernization of the fiscal sector.
