President Mubarak received a message from Romanian President Ion Iliescu during his meeting with Romanian PM Mr. ADRIAN NASTASE.

President Mubarak inaugurated the new Waraq Bridge, which became on service and commented to the press during the event on the Egyptian – EU partnership agreement explaining that negotiations consumed a long time. Mubarak also called on Egyptians working in the industrial field to continue development and modernization efforts in order to stand the international competition.

President Mubarak chaired the Parliamentary Authority of the National Democratic Party including members of the Shura Council. At the beginning of the meeting, Mubarak extended his congratulations to the members wishing that the council would fulfill a major role in the enhancement of parliamentary and democratic practices in Egypt.

In the framework of the on going Egyptian efforts to contain the turbulent situation between Palestinians and Israelis, President Mubarak held tête a tête talks with George Tenet, the Director of the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). They discussed means to arrive to security arrangements and the implementation of the Mitchell’s recommendations.

President Mubarak received American Joint Chief of Staff Henery Shelton who stated after the meeting that the Egyptian and American Armed forces enjoy healthy relations as part of the amicable ties between the two countries.

In an interview with Yong Tian, Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese People’s newspaper, President Mubarak stressed the importance of seizing the current situation to prepare for the implementation of Mitchell’s recommendations. Mubarak also indicated that the only alternative in case of failure to accelerate the necessary steps would be terrorism. In regard to the bilateral relations, Mubarak clarified that he concluded an agreement with his Chinese counterpart Jiang Zimin for a strategic partnership, which will help enhancing the cooperation between both countries on the short and long term.

President Mubarak stated in his speech celebrating Prophet Mohamed’s (PAPBUH) birthday that the Muslim nation will spare no possible effort to help Palestinians regain their rights. He further clarified that this will ensure the establishment of peace in the ME.
