President Mubarak received Dr. Boutros Ghali Secretary General of the International Francophone Organization at Le Palais de Marinee. Dr. Ghali briefed Mubarak on the on going activities of the organization including current arrangements for the upcoming summit to be held in Beirut.

President Mubarak and French President Jacque Chirac convened in Le Palais d’Elyseés for talks which focused on means to end the aggression sweeping the Palestinian occupied territories in an effort to resume the Palestinian / Israeli negotiations. Both leaders discussed as well bilateral relations and the EU/ Egyptian Partnership agreement.

President Mubarak held a meeting with the American Ambassador to Egypt Mr. Daniel Kurtzer discussing the arrangements of Mubarak’s coming visit to the USA, developments of the Middle East peace process and other regional issue.

President Mubarak received former Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Kaifo and his accompanying delegation.

President Mubarak inaugurated the 34th Cairo International Fair which is attended by exhibitors representing 73 countries of which 10 are taking part for the first time in addition to 3700 national and 1600 foreign companies. Mubarak toured the Egyptian agricultural and industrial booths while he urged national companies to exert efforts in order to meet overall demands of the domestic market. Mubarak also called upon the national exhibitors to devote major attention to the issue of exports.

In the context of preparations for his upcoming visit to the United States, President Mubarak presided over an expanded ministerial meeting at the Presidential Palace attended by Prime Minister Dr. Atef Ebeid, Minister of Defence Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, Foreign Minister Amr Moussa, Minister of Economy Dr. Youssef Butros Ghali, Chief of the Presidential Palace Dr. Zakaria Azmi and Political Advisor to the President Dr. Osama AL Baz. The meeting reviewed arrangements for the upcoming Egyptian US summit, issues to be tackled in talks which US officials, underway efforts for reactivating the peace process, the results of Amman summit, various developments in the region, fields of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, joint investment, health and environment.

President Hosni Mubarak received a message from Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber AL Ahmed AL Sabah on the pan-Arab Summit, due to open in Amman on March 27.The President received the message during his meeting with Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah AL Ahmed AL Sabah, currently visiting Cairo within the context of an Arab tour.

President Hosni Mubarak held talks with Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat dealing with the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and progress of the peace process. Talks further dealt with coordination of stances in the context of Arab stances and preparation for the forthcoming Arab summit that will be held in Amman on March 27.

President Mubarak along with Syrian President Bashar Al - Assad and Jordanian King Abdullah II inaugurated the joint power linkage project. The ceremony took place in Dair Ali power station located on the Syrian / Jordanian borders

President Mubarak received the EU delegation visiting Egypt at the end of their tour in the region. Mubarak reviewed with the delegation, which included the Swedish Foreign Minister Mrs Anna Lindh developments of the peace process and the on going efforts for its acceleration.

President Mubarak convened with Dr. Esmat Abdel Meguid Secretary General of the Arab League in order to look into the on going preparations for the anticipated Arab summit to be held in Amman. The summit reflects the initiation of a new era of collaborative work among Arab countries.

President Mubarak received Tunisian Foreign Minister Mr. Alhabeeb Bin Yehia who carried a message from Tunisian President Zeyn Alabedeen Bin Aly dealing with the latest developments of the bilateral cooperation.

President Mubarak held a meeting with HE the Jordanian Foreign Minister Mr. Abdel Elah Alkhateeb who delivered to Mubarak an invitation from the Jordanian King to attend the upcoming Arab summit. Mubarak discussed the summit proposed agenda in addition to points of agreement among Egypt and Jordan concerning the proposed issues.

President Mubarak held a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamed Saeed Alsahhaf discussing the issues expected to be covered during the coming Arab summit.

President Mubarak held a session of talks with HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Eassa Al Khalifa the Emir of Bahrain dealing with overall circumstances on the regional level including Gulf related issues. The Middle East peace process in light of the variables and current situation in the occupied lands of Palestine topped the meeting agenda.

President Mubarak together with Dr. Fathy Sorour the People’s Council spokesman, the Grand Imam Dr. Mohamed Sayed Tantawy, PM Dr. Atef Ebeid, Deputy PM and Minister of Agriculture Dr. Youssef Waly as well as Minister of Information Mr. Safwat El Sherief performed prayer of the Grand Feast (Eid ul Adha) in the Sharm El Sheikh mosque.
