Egypt Infrastructure

The Egyptian Government, since the initiation of the economic reform program in 1991, realized that the private sector is the engine for economic growth. Therefore, it focused on investment only in areas that support rather than compete with the private sector.

The government also reviewed its traditional involvement in infrastructure in order to allow an increasing role of the private sector. New legislation, containing different schemes for the private participation in infrastructure investment, were introduced and legalized by the People’s Assembly.
