Egypt had witnessed a rapid and growing development in ICT infrastructure. Major achievements are evident in the growth in number of telephone lines, cellular phones and internet users which connects Egypt to the rest of the world, in addition to each governorate has a free access to the internet. These developments resulted in the bridging the digital divide between Egypt and development countries.

Total telephone lines came to 13.2 million in Sept. 2006, which is about 26 fold increase compared to 0.51 million lines in 81/82.

The service achieved a sweeping success, which was manifested in the number of celler phone users that accounted for about 14 million in 2005/2006.

Egypt managed as well to cope with the global telecommunication revolution. This was reflected in launching the Egyptian satellites Nile Sat's 101 and 102.
